For Monday, I have a midterm and a paper topic proposal due and preparation for those two things is probably going to take me all weekend. I really want to go see "Meet the Spartans" this weekend, so I will probably sneek away from my "studies" for a few hours to do that. I hope it's good!
I really feel like I've had to work harder this quarter than any previous quarter in college, and I really don't like that feeling. I wish that the workload was more like it was in hight school! It was so much easier to slack off and do everything last-minute and still get good grades back then. Though, with as many changes to the curriculum as they've been making, it wouldn't surprise me if high school ends up being every bit as hard as college in a few years.

Got nothing done
I basically have 3-day weekends every weekend this quarter because I don't have class or work on Fridays. You would think that I would get -something- done because I have that extra day, but you would be wrong. I have gotten absolutely nothing read this weekend...I haven't even looked at my books since Wednesday. I brought my backpack to work with me on Thursday figuring that I would get a chapter read or something, but I never pulled the first book out. I think it was mostly because I was keeping myself busy to prove to my boss that I'm not a slacker.
About the "slacker" thing. My boss cut my hours down over break and for this quarter to 10 hours a week because she felt that I wasn't working hard enough and sharing the "burdens" equally with everyone else. I admit that I did slack off last quarter, and I had hoped that if I worked hard over Winter break, that she would give me my hours back for this quarter, but I was mistaken. However, she informed me on Thursday that she will be giving me my hours back for Spring quarter, so at least I don't have to quit and find a new job. I had already decided that if I would only be working 10 hours next quarter that I would quit because I just don't make enough money working those few hours a week. Even 15 hours would be an improvement!
Aside from all of my expenses, I would really like to be able to help Mom and Dad out by buying some groceries each week or something. They don't charge me rent or anything, and I usually don't have the time to do much housework for them, so I thought it would be nice to contribute by buying groceries and other household necessities....which I can't really do right now because I don't have much money left over after I get done buying my shampoo, conditioner and other necessities. And I feel bad about that. So, hopefully next quarter I'll be more helpful. :)

I hate moving!
I still can't find my camera cord so I can transfer my camera pics to my computer...actually, I still can't find a lot of stuff. I have a feeling that it's all in the garage somewhere and I probably won't find it until Spring. I may have to go out and get a memory card for my camera so that it can actually hold more than 10 pics. Maybe that'll be my Valentine's Day present to myself?!
Speaking of pictures, I was talking to Mom a few weeks ago about having a family picture done sometime over the summer. In light of Dad's diagnosis, I've realized that it's important to do things as a family, and we haven't actually had a family picture taken since Ben was a baby (Nick wasn't even around), unless you count the pic that was taken for the church's "yearbook" a few years after we moved back (which I don't because we never got a copy of the pic or the book). So anyways. I think that might be something fun that the family can do sometime over the summer when we all have a little more free time. :)

New 'do
I got my hair cut today. It became apparent to me recently that it had been way too long since my last haircut, so Jake and I made appointments to get our hair chopped off today (he was looking pretty shaggy, too).
There were a few hairstyles that I saw in the book and really liked, but neither seemed like they would look good on me (especially with my curly hair). So, with the help of the stylist (of course), the style was modified and I think it turned out really well. I should be able to wear it curly or straight and have it look good, which wasn't the case before the haircut. Versatility is very important when it comes to hair, especially mine. If it doesn't do what I want it to, I generally end up throwing it up in a ponytail...I end up wearing those a lot.
Anyways. I promise to get some pics posted once I've had the chance to play with it a little and see what style(s) I like...and once I find the cord that allows me to send my pictures from my digital camera to my computer...I hate moving because you can never find anything!

Long weekend
We're in for a treat this weekend because we're actually getting the day off on Monday (it seemed like we'd have to go to class EVERY SINGLE DAY this quarter). While the long weekend gives hope that I'll actually get my paper done and my midterm studied for for Wednesday...unfortunately, a long weekend also increases the possibility that I'll slack off and ignore my assignments until the last possible moment. That's NOT what I want to happen, but it's nigh inevitable. One potentially good thing about this weekend is that it's supposed to be cold and snowy, for the most part, and that may keep me inside. If I'm stuck inside, there isn't much to do to avoid my studying, so I'll almost be compelled to do it...yuck!
I really would like to have the chance to enjoy my weekend and to celebrate the lack of Monday classes. I dread the Mondays and Wednesdays of this quarter because I have 3 classes that are pretty much back-to-back, leaving me little time to relax or breath in between. I really don't care for not having more than 10 minutes between my classes. It's probably a good thing that I don't have far to travel between classes.

This weekend...
This weekend has been a total flop as far as the amount of "homework" I've managed to complete. My Psych reading is done and I finally finished up my reading for my "Legal Issues" class from last week, but the assignment for next week is really confusing because the page numbers are all messed up. So, that obviously didn't get finished. I really need to start my reading for History. And I definately need to work on my reading for my History of Modern Ed class because I have to write a 1.5-2 page summary on it for Tuesday evening.
In other words, I'm really behind and I'm not sure that I'll be able to crawl out of the hole that I'm in in time to get everything finished on time (or just in the "nick of time"). If I spend all day tomorrow doing my reading for Monday, then I can spend Monday evening and Tuesday morning/afternoon working on my stuff for Tuesday. I really didn't want to procrastinate this quarter, but it seems like I just can't avoid it. Maybe that should have been one of my New Year's resolutions for this year?

I tried...
I tried to be good and work on some "homework" and reading while I was at work today. I got an entire chapter read for Psych, but every time I picked up the book that I was working on after that, someone came into the office. And, just when I thought they were gone and it was safe to resume reading, another person walked in. I'm pretty sure I read the same sentence about 10 times, and I couldn't remember it to save my life!
On a more positive note: I'm going to see the Chipmunks movie tomorrow night! It's playing at the Wapa theatre, so if it sucks, at least I'll have only paid $3 to see it (but I really hope it's good!).
Other than the movie, I don't really have many big plans for this weekend, other than hopefully getting caught up on reading and my assignments for the beginning of next week. *crosses fingers*
But, I did have something kinda exciting happen today. I went to Walmart after work because I wanted to pick up some more yarn for the blanket that I'm working on (to help my Mom out) before they run out of it. Anyways. I was browsing around in the clothes section and I saw that they had this cute Tinkerbell shirt on sale for $1! Sure, it's got something about Santa on it, but I just couldn't pass it up. :D
I also picked up a little hedgehog stuffed animal that's holding a heart that says "Kiss Me" on it for Jake for Valentine's Day. I figured I should grab it before they ran out (they only had 2 left). It's so cute! I just have to remember not to go crazy and spend too much on him because I already bought him a Garfield TY stuffed animal and I gave it to him already under the pretense that it's for V-Day.
Anyways...I hope everyone has a good weekend! And I hope the weather is nice, too!!

Why us?!?!
Mom and Dad went to see the doctor's in Columbus on Friday to discuss Chemotherapy. Apparently the chemo-type drug that Dad has been taking isn't working like the doctors want it to, so they're starting him on actual Chemo as soon as possible.
They did a scan and found out that the cancer has spread into both of Dad's lungs. I'm not sure what factors they have in determining this, but they told my parents that he has about 2-5 years left...I don't know if it's because the cancer isn't reacting to the drug like it should be or because it has entered his lungs, or both, or several other factors...I don't know.
I would just like to ask one thing of everyone that reads this blog: If you could, would you please pray for my Dad and my family? He's got so much more life to live and I know he's not ready to leave yet. So, if you could just keep him and us in your thoughts and prayers, I would greatly appreciate it, and I know he and the rest of my family would, too.
If you would like more details, you can give me a call (if you have my number). I don't know how much more I can tell you because I don't have all of the details, myself, but if you're confused about anything, I can maybe straighten things up (maybe).
So, again, if you could pray for my Dad and the rest of my family, it would be greatly appreciated...every little bit will help.

Day 2
I was excited about only having 2 of my 3 Monday classes today. First of all, today was really messed up because someone decided that since we lose a Monday to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, that we would sacrific a Friday to have Monday classes (because we started on a Thursday this quarter). Had this not been changed, I wouldn't have had classes at all this week.
Since I had to venture to campus today, I was excited to find out that my last class of the day wasn't going to be meeting. Little did I know that the other two classes were going to be so...draining. Most of that is probably due to my lack of sleep (I'm hoping), so Monday should prove that they are not as bad.
I think I will be fine in my Psych class because I've had the prof before and the other class was pretty easy. However, my Ed P & L class is another story. It's about legal issues in education and we're going to have an 8-10 page paper due, as well as a 15-20 minute presentation to go along with said paper. And we're also doing a debate. It seems to me that this will be a very easy class to fall behind in.
By next Tuesday, I will have "experienced" all of my classes for this quarter. As of right now, the possibility of a good quarter is not looking promising. :(

Winter '08
Today was the first day of the quarter and I didn't even have class, but I still had to get up and drive to campus today for work. And if the people in charge hadn't decided to make Friday a Monday schedule, I wouldn't have to be here tomorrow...suckage!
Overall, it hasn't been a bad day. We've been pretty busy in the office all day, but it could have been a lot worse. Thankfully nobody really asked for help on something we didn't have control over (there were a few, but they didn't come all at once). I was expecting today to suck really bad because I couldn't get to sleep last night. And I have to say, I don't think I've ever been this happy to be disappointed. ;p
Tonight I plan on hooking up my new DVD player, watching a movie or 2 with Jake and relaxing (until it's time for bed). I only have 2 of my 3 Monday classes tomorrow, which means that I will get done around 12:20, which is exciting for me. I don't have any plans for tomorrow, but at least I'll be home in time to make some. ;p
